Several Harriers records went down at last Tuesday’s St. Petersburg Middle School Championships.  And we won some hardware!  On an extremely hot afternoon, every runner either set a PR or won a Top 8 ribbon.  Very impressive.

And special thanks to Shorecrest Prep for hosting a great meet!

The wind couldn’t keep the Harriers from storming an accomplished 5K field in Westchase on Saturday.  The race organizers were certainly surprised to see so many kids at the front of the pack.  Some of us even won “soda bottle openers” for finishing in the Top 25!

Next up: TRACK SEASON!

Aaarrgh!  The Hillsborough Harriers stormed into the Gasparilla Distance Classic, and walked out with plenty of hardware.  Not only did the Harriers dominate the top of the boys and girls divisions of the 5K, we even took an award in the half marathon!  Great job, runners.

Saturday’s 5K was just meant as an early season “rust buster”, but perfect weather and a fast course led to some great results.  On the ladies side, we had the winner and the fourth place finisher, and we also put two in the top four on the men’s side.  The front-running Harriers were certainly the topic of conversation afterwards!

Next race is the Westchase WOB 5K in early March.  Get ready for the Harriers!

The Harriers kicked off the 2015 Track season with some great results at the final Jimmy Carnes Invitational.  The University of Florida hosted one of the biggest and best indoor meets in the country, and eleven Harriers were part of the action.

And we won five medals!

The 2014 cross country season came to an exciting end at Saturdays’ State meet, and the Harriers were a big part of that excitement!  The meet started with an amazing runner-up finish by a Harrier in the Girls’ Championship race, and ended with some medals in the Elementary divisions.  And in between were several personal records and course records.  In short, it was our best meet of the season!

This year’s PreHEAT featured no actual heat — it was our first cold race in two years — but it did feature some hot Harriers!  The boys team picked up another victory, despite the absence of three of the fastest runners, and an incomplete girls team ran great for second!

But more remarkable was the improvement of every runner from the first meet on this course.  Literally every runner ran a course record on Saturday!

Last meet of the season on deck:  the State Championship!

The Hillsborough Harriers capped off a successful season by capturing both the boys’ and girls’ crowns at this past Saturday’s Bay Area Championships!  We also snagged six Top 10 medals (including a first and a second) and twelve Top 20 backpacks!

Great job to all the Harriers.  Now we prepare for the State meet!

Congratulations to the Harriers girls, who came in 1st place out of 38 registered teams to claim the 2014 Disney XC Classic championship!  We’re so proud of you!  Mickey has a new home in The Running Center:

The boys also ran the best meet of their season, scoring a number of PRs on a tough course in a super-fast field.  They just missed the podium, but should be proud of their times and a top 10 finish in the fastest boys race in Florida middle school history!
